A triathlon is one of the more popular sporting events in modern history. Started in the 1920s in France, triathlons have since become a race that many athletes wish to take part in. If you want to compete in one, you will need to know the three parts of a triathlon first.
The three parts of a triathlon are swimming, cycling, and running. Triathletes compete for the fastest completion time for all three parts and the transition in between. The first part typically happens in open water. Swimming is not an indoor-pool event where the type of strokes or swimming method will be set beforehand. In a triathlon, the swimming part can be accomplished by whatever swimming method the triathlete chooses. Considering that there will be waves and other open-water factors to consider, this part of a triathlon is rather hard. Using alternating strokes will be most recommended.
The second part of a triathlon involves cycling. The rules that govern this part of the race are not necessarily the same as that of professional cycling races. Also, the type of bicycles that triathletes use are modified for better cycling time. There is also a type of cycling involved so that they can tackle the third part of the race better.
The third part, running, will ultimately be hard for a triathlete because his or her muscles are about ready to give up from all the cycling and swimming that have happened. Only those that have trained hard and well will be able to finish this part of the race.
These three parts are very demanding. Triathletes will do well if they know how to conserve their energy for the part ahead. If you still wish join a triathlon, it is best that you undergo proper training. It is also recommended to join the shorter races first.
