Want to Know How to Wear Your Bicycle Helmets?
You have bought a brand new helmet for your cycling adventures. How does that help in your cycling activity? The answer is a lot! This is because you will be much safer with the protection for your head. You will reduce your chances of serious injuries by about 60 to 70 percent just by wearing a helmet.
The benefit really outweighs the hassle and cost to get one (helmet). Wearing a helmet can help you get the most out of your rides. You could increase performance by not letting heat escape from your head. Humans lose heat most from their heads.
Now we talk about how to wear the helmet properly. You must know the proper way to wear it. Otherwise, it is similar to not wearing one at all. Adjust your strap so that it will be fitting snugly on your skin area. How fitting this can be? Maintain a small area of space between your head and the helmet. If the helmet cannot fit you, then find another model. Helmet models can differ a lot according to manufacturers.
An alternative is to use a pad to when wearing the helmet. But wearing pads can be a hassle. Therefore, you should keep looking at a bicycle helmet that fits you at the first place. You should always be selective when selecting a bike helmet. Be sure to try all of the models at your bicycle store. Take a few hours to do so if necessary. This is because wearing a helmet when cycling is all the more necessary.
The key lies in strapping your helmet. Keep a good fit when you adjust the strap. Not too loose, not too tight either. A rule of thumb is to use your two fingers to slip inside. If it could go through easily, it means it is loose. If it does not, then it is too tight. Ever seen the slider on the strap? What is this slider for? You should place it near your ear at all times.
In future, you should always practice wearing a bicycle helmet using a mirror as a guide. You would want to keep the helmet level at all times. Keep in mind that the sliders and strap work hand in hand together. After strapping, try to move your helmet about. An inch of movement in any direction indicates a loose helmet!
